There are multiple ways of getting words out of your head and into your notes or system. They all have their pluses and minuses. They all have their points of friction. They all require different skills to get the words out of the brain and somewhere. They all require practice to get comfortable with the process.
It is so easy for me to just open up a laptop and start typing. The problem with that is there are two other methods that need work. Those are handwriting and dictation.
Yes, you need to practice handwriting. One time I was traveling home to MN and was shocked at how hard it was to fill in a form. I hadn't done any handwriting for months on end. I made a vow that day to always practice handwriting.
Dictation is the other method I need to practice. I hate dictating with my voice, but that probably just means since I never practice it that the friction of doing it is the real issue.
So for my morning writing, I set up a shortcut that randomly chooses the method of getting the 200 words written. These are typing, voice dictation, writing on paper, and writing on glass. One goal is to get the flow smoothed out for all of them so they are equally comfortable. Another goal is to get my mind to realize anything is cool to get the words written.
